145th edition of the Seydina Limamou Laye Call, Dakar, Senegal.

On January 30th and 31st, it is the 145th anniversary of Seydina Limamou Laye. Dressed in white, the Layènes gather at the Yoff mosque to pay tribute to this man who made history. Born in 1843 in Yoff, Limamou Laye lost his father at a very young age, and then his mother in 1883. After this tragedy, he decided to lock himself away for three days, without eating or drinking.

When he reappears, he announces that he is the messenger of God, the reincarnation of the Prophet Muhammad. At first, many take him for a madman, but little by little, Muslim scholars from all over Senegal begin to respond to his call, fascinated by his speech and vision.

His influence eventually worries the French colonists, who seek to distance him. They even take him to the island of Gorée, where he is imprisoned. But neither these attempts nor the threats stop him. Returning to Yoff, he continues to preach an Islam that he calls "pure and sincere," free from practices he considers far from traditional teachings. Even today, his life, often compared to that of Christ, continues to inspire the Layènes and many others beyond the borders.
