Being a Model in Dakar: “We Are Treated Like Rags”.

The aim is to highlight the challenges and successes of the often demanding journey that Senegalese models undertake to gain recognition. Various models share their experiences, including Shoupah, a young woman renowned in the industry who participated in Dakar Fashion Week and whom we had the opportunity to follow.

Other male models, still at the beginning of their careers and mostly from modest backgrounds, testify to the promises of certain brands and international contacts who exploit their image without offering real opportunities or even compensation.

The issue of non-payment is therefore central, as it represents a structural injustice in the industry that affects many models in the country. Beyond these harsh realities, we shed light on the resilience of Senegalese models who, despite obstacles, strive to make a place for themselves in the fashion world.
